Total Return

How much an investment gained or lost over a period, counting both the price change and any dividends, as if the dividends were reinvested. It is the fair way to compare a stock that pays dividends with one that does not.

Example:

A stock rises 5% in a year and pays 3% in dividends. Its total return is about 8%.
