The yearly dividend a stock would pay if its latest regular dividend kept coming at the same pace, as a share of today's price. It is not a forecast. The company can raise, cut or stop the dividend.
Example:
A $50 stock whose latest quarterly dividend was $0.50 would pay $2 a year, an indicated yield of 4%.
