The combined view of the analysts who follow a stock, such as their average price target or how many rate it a buy, a hold or a sell. It is a count of opinions, not a forecast that will come true.
Example:
Twelve analysts rate a stock a buy, eight a hold and one a sell. The consensus is buy.
